What I've Learned from Going Vegan

Going vegan for 21 days was very challenging. My diet and lifestyle changed completely. I had to actually think about what I was eating and plan my meals ahead of time. This was not easy. I always had to check the labels or search the internet to make sure all my food products were vegan.


Being vegan made me very aware of what I was eating and what I was putting into my body. Reading labels of all the food products made me realise how little I know of what I’m actually consuming. Since going vegan I’ve gained more appreciation for my body and how it functions to keep me going every day. I’m making more of an effort to ensure I’m giving my body the right food it needs and making better food choices in general. Here are a few things I’ve learned from going vegan:


Your skin will start glowing

Going vegan does wonders for your skin, hair and nails. I’ve personally seen a change in my skin and my nails are stronger than it’s ever been before. You don’t need all these skin products and tablets to make your skin look healthy. All you need to do is swop out your processed and junk food for a plant-based diet.


Just because it’s vegan doesn’t mean it’s good for you

I always thought that everything vegan is good for you but that is not true. There are a variety of pre-packaged options and vegan-friendly restaurants with vegan options but that could be higher in sugar, sodium and fats. Preparing wholesome meals from scratch is the best way. Everything should be eaten in moderation and balance is key.

You will feel more energised

Being vegan definitely increased my energy and I found myself not taking naps in the afternoon. This was amazing! This made me realise that the food I was eating before was doing nothing for my body. It just left me more tired. I’ve learned that the food you eat will definitely impact the way you feel and the choices you make.


There will be challenges

There were many challenges that came with being vegan and that goes with everything in life. You will always be challenged but there will always be solutions to overcome them. Overcoming certain challenges with being vegan, motivated me more to stick with it.


Through this challenge I’ve become more aware about what I eat and try to include more wholesome meals in my diet. This is the only body we have and we have to treat it with respect. It’s crazy to think that our bodies are fighting and working hard every day to keep us alive and functioning. The least we can do is feed it with good healthy wholesome food.
